The Ironworks (sited at Pye Bridge) had a long history stretching back to 1802, and was owned by James Oakes & Co. The company was taken over by Stanton & Staveley in 1920 and then in 1949 by Bristish Steel, as part of the Nationalisation of steel companies by the government. The works closed on 13th June 1969.
