Somercotes Cricket Ground
The original Somercotes cricket ground was converted into a greyhound stadium and was abandoned by cricketers before the Second World War. The location of this ground is now occupied by part of the road into the Cotes Park Industrial Estate, a NHS Logistics Authority and the Royal Mail Delivery Office. The council developed a new ground alongside the pit road off Nottingham Road. This was a level oval shaped arena with a wooden pavilion. Unfortunately, the council soon decided to sell the ground for industrial development and is now the site of the Pilkington Glass Company.
A more enduring ground for Somercotes was that owned by Cotes Viyella (formerly Aertex). The ground, now completely overgrown but essentially in tact, is at the entrance to the factory off Hockley Way. There are steps up to the site of the substantial wooden pavilion gates. All that remains of this building is the concrete foundations. The Ground had an odd shape in the three boundaries are straight, but the other bulges out towards Hockley Way.
1st XI: 1930 to 1940 - 2nd XI: 1930 to 1932.
