The Greyhound Track was situated at the Somercotes Sports Stadium, on Nottingham Road that was a popular home to the greyhound racing track and local football team.
The Somercotes Greyhound Track opened in 1955-56.
The men behind the greyhound track venture were Harry Hill, Len Meredith (landlord Royal Tiger PH), Ted Callaghan and Charlie Hall, whose wife was on the gate. Entry to the track was 50 pence (10 shillings).
Facilities: Tin Shelter for the bookies, Pavilion and toilets (these were opposite the car wash now on Nottingham Road). The track: The track had two distances 270 yards from the far side and a 480 yard distance.
The Sports Stadium closed in the early 1970's and the land became part of the Cotes Park Industrial Estate development.
