William Bailey was a miner who moved to Somercotes in the 1870s. He established a printing business which started full time in 1881, and which continues today. William was a much respected member of the Somercotes business community and continued to run the company before passing it to his two sons, William and Thomas. Although William Junior had no children, his brother Thomas had three, and the business has been handed down to family members ever since.
They have been at their present site at Langley Avenue, Somercotes since 1914 and are now one of the oldest printing companies in Derbyshire.
They were at the forefront of producing advertising literature and posters for many of the local cinemas in the district from the era of the silent movies through to the 1960s when many of them closed. They also had a long association with the British Railways Board, printing timetables and excursion posters, despatching them all over the country via the railway station at Pye Bridge.
