On Saturday, 13th October 2012, villagers flocked to Somercotes Parish Hall to help build up an historical history of the area. It was estimated that 250-300 people attended the event.
The event saw several local heritage groups displaying artifacts and registers from the village’s past. The event was also an information gathering exercise – with residents bringing in their own photos and stories to add to the history groups’ archives”.
The knowledge gathered will be used to update the Somercotes Local History Society website, with the end goal being to produce a book on the history of the village. The Heritage Day was about letting people know we are here and what we are planning to do.
