On Saturday, 9th November 2013, the Heritage Day, at the Village Hall, Somercotes had some 12 exhibitors that allowed the community to view and understand the importance of keeping our heritage alive. It is estimated that around 400 people attended the event and such was the interest that it was difficult to close the event, as many people wished to remain to view the exhibits and ask questions.
SLHS used the event to launch the Heritage project, supported by HLF. The group produced a DVD of local photographs to music that has become a great success with copies selling extremely well (over 80 sold). The event was well publicised and promoted the HLF award and support through coverage, and personal interviews with the Secretary, on Radio Derby & Amber Sound.
The next Heritage Day is scheduled for November 2014 when the first year’s progress of the project will be a key element of the event.
