Hairdressers in the Parish

The first listing for a hairdresser was in 1876, although it is possible that prior to this date hairdressing was done on a part time basis, which was not recorded. As the population of the area grew, and people began to have more disposable income, visiting the hairdresser and changing hairstyles became much more common, and it became an important part of the fashion industry. Today, there are more hairdressers in Somercotes and Leabrooks than almost any other trade.
