Peace celebrations were held in Pye Bridge during the week ending Saturday 6 September 1919. The events were reported in the Derbyshire Courier published on that day..
"Although rather belated, the peace celebrations at Pye Bridge were none the less enjoyable and passed off successfully. From Pye Bridge, no fewer than 98 served in the forces and 16 fell. The whole cost of the celebrations was defrayed by the residents and the works. Mr Ely as chairman and Mr Andrews as secretary, along with the committee carried out their respective duties in an admirable manner. On Wednesday of last week about 170 children were entertained to tea, after which sports were held. On Thursday evening the returned soldiers and sailors were entertained in the Pye Bridge Institute. Amongst the guests were Mr Jordan Ashworth JP, Mr A Lee JP, both of Riddings, Mr Valentine Hill and Mr Scotson of Lower Somercotes, Mr Cotterill and Mr Clark of Pye Bridge, along with Mr B Ely, the chairman, each of whom made appropriate speeches. After dinner a smoking concert was held. Songs were sung by Mr H Bools of Pinxton, Mr Scattergood (Riddings), Mr George Farrell (Riddings), Mr G Burton (Pye Bridge). Mr W Whetton (Pinxton) was the accompanist. Two recitations were given by ex-sergeant Hynett. Much credit is due to the women of Pye Bridge for the admirable way they did the catering."
The "works" referred to in the article in relation to the cost of the events was most likely Riddings Ironworks (at the time known as the Alfreton Ironworks), which through the auspices of James Oakes supported many such events in the district.
